The Lectionary New Edition from 1st Sunday in Advent Yr C

Some helpful notes for Readers (Lectors)  / for all ministries

Please note on our parish website there is an good background given for those who take up the ministry of the Lector (Reader)

· We do not come to church or mass simply because we read or do any other ministry.  Even if we do not have anything to do we would value coming to mass for the sacrament and for all what it means. Our ministry is because of our desire for the sacrament and holy mass.

· Holy mass and the church must not be a platform for our self interests, ideologies, political alliances, statements, charities or any other. It must be a house of prayer and place of worship to God alone. For his glory and must be pleasing to the Lord. Our intentions must be pure.

· Please note that you do not have to  touch or adjust the microphone. It is very sensitive and powerful. It is not necessary to get closer to the microphone. Simply speak to it projecting your voice.

· It is not necessary to hug the lectern or cling to the lectionary. But rather step back and stand from the lectern. Avoid touching the book unless needed to change pages. Simply project yourself to the microphone.

· Avoid spouting at the lectern (some times it happens to me too) so please take care, as the lectern and the book can be contaminated and also ruin the books.

· Between  the 1st and the psalm or the second reading, take a good pause. Don’t have to rush from one to the other.  It Is not necessary to say ‘the 1st  Reading’ or ‘the second reading’ etc. A pause of silence between readings is helpful.

· Please practice before hand. Especially if there are new and unsure words please do ask. Do not alter words or give your own.

· Kindly read the prayers of the faithful before hand and if you think some words or phrases wrong, please let me know first before you change so that the intended meaning is not lost .
